Advice, Training, Tracking, Coaching and Education

Along with counting calories for weight loss, they teach lifestyle and behavioral changes through educational readings and videos.

Noom arranges foods into 3 categories and you can eat what you want, but are limited by eating foods mainly from green and yellow food groups.

  • Green foods: This includes vegetables (broccoli, sweet potatoes, carrots) and fruits (blueberries, apples, bananas), plus other low-caloric density foods like egg whites, whole-grain bread, and quinoa. You’re encouraged to consume these often.
  • Red foods: These are the most calorie-dense foods (think: nuts, cheese, beef, pork, pizza, cake), and you’re encouraged to eat them sparingly.
  • Yellow foods: These fall somewhere in the middle when it comes to caloric density (think: chicken, eggs, turkey, beans, ground beef, avocados). So, eat them in moderation.

Noom doesn’t include any pre-packaged or frozen foods. It shows you what to eat, and has a huge recipe database if you prefer to cook all of your own meals.

You’ll be able to log all of your meals, snacks, and daily exercise, and you’ll also be able to keep an eye on other important health measures like blood sugar and pressure.

Noom is the most like Weight Watchers, and is the most expensive for an option that does not include pre-packaged foods.

Mayo Clinic Diet

They both offer apps to use, but Mayo Clinic is more focused on a 2 Phase system to help you reach your weight loss goals.

During these 2 phases, you will lose weight, while also learning about the important role moderate physical activities plays, as well as what it takes to keep the weight off for good!

Mayo Clinic Diet is much more affordable than Noom.

Trim Down Club

Trim Down Club is a lot like Noom and it also happens to be the most affordable diet on our list.

There are no frills or gimmicks when it comes to Trim Down Club, just a solid diet plan, that can help you lose weight in a way that’s safe and healthy.

The biggest difference is probably that everything with Noom centers on their awesome app. You use the Noom app to connect with your coach, get recipes, look up the food list, and much more.

Trim Down Club doesn’t currently have an app, but their website is mobile friendly.

Trim Down Club also doesn’t connect you with a one-on-one coach, but there are diet experts available in their community who can answer questions, give support, and make sure you’re on your way to reaching your weight loss goals.

WW (Weight Watchers)

Advice, Training, Tracking, Coaching and Education

Weight Watchers assigns food points – SmartPoints, and you count the points for each meal.

Every food and drink has a corresponding SmartPoint value. But the healthiest food options (think: certain fruits and veggies) are considered zero-point foods. You’ll be give a personalized SmartPoint budget based on your initial assessment and weight loss goals and be assigned to one of three plans—purple, green, or blue.

  • The Purple plan offers over 300 zero-point foods (win!), but you’ll also have the lowest number of total daily points.
  • The Green plan gives you a little over 100 zero point foods, but the highest number of daily points.
  • The Blue plan is right in the middle, offering 200 zero-point foods and an average (not too high, not too low) number of daily points.

There are thousands of recipes on the app that you can filter by dietary needs and prep time. And WW’s partnership with Blue Apron can make home cooking easier.

You’ll have access to free workouts on the app, and WW has partnerships with fitness companies like Aaptiv, an audio instruction program that offers no equipment workouts made specifically with WW users in mind.

Because WW has been around for so long, it’s network is huge. You can attend meetings and workshops in your area or receive live coaching through the app.

WW is a cheaper alternative to Noom, and offers local meetings and support groups.

Advice, Tracking, Coaching and Meal Delivery

Meal delivery is the biggest difference between Nutrisystem and Noom or WW.

They offer a coaching experience that can be accessed online or by phone.

It costs a bit more, because you’re also paying for their diet food, but that additional cost may be worth it to you when you factor in the overall convenience of the program.

You can pick a Personal Plan that is designed for you unique needs and weight loss goals.

Just eat the food, follow the program, and lose weight – it honestly doesn’t get much easier than that!

Jenny Craig

Advice, Tracking, Coaching and Meal Delivery

Meal Delivery with 1-on-1 Coaching.

Just like Nutrisytem, Jenny Craig delivers your food to you every month, but with one key difference: They offer one-to-one coaching, that’s more similar to Noom’s.

When you sign up for Jenny Craig,  your consultant will work with you to build your goals, pick the best plan for you, and keep you on track as you work to reach your goal weight.

It’s a win-win if you love the convenience of diet delivery, and also want to work closely with a coach to keep you motivated and on track.

Jenny Craig offers in-person meetings, just like WW does if that’s something you’d like to have the option of attending.

Jenny Craig works in pretty much the same way Nutrisystem does. You’ll be eating every 2-3 hours, or 6 times per day.
